Offerings to the please the gods

Nomos: seized contraband, the hand of a thief, a polished diamond, gallows rope, a golden crown.

Plutus: a generous donation, a drawing of a monkey, a pound of flesh from a debtor who couldn’t pay, a four leafed clover.

Ceres: fresh barley cakes, the first bushel of wheat to be harvested, vegetables with carved faces, a log pyre, a wickerman.

Charon: tears shed in grief, the fingernails of a corpse, soil dug for a grave, a well made boat, a faithful guard dog.

Iakhonsu: a wheel of aged cheese, the blood of a lamb, an egg laid under a full moon, a silver horseshoe, the horns of a bull, a bowl of milk and honey.

Goibnu: an ingot of purest iron, a stocking full of coal, a worn steel blade, a helmet that deflected a killing blow.

Shapash: a silken scarf, a lovingly knitted sweater, a gift from a lover, a tapestry glorifying Shapash, the flag of a kingdom.

Hermathoth: a vintage alcohol, a jar of blood fed leeches, poppies from a battlefield, a human kidney, a bottle of snake oil.

Cadmus: a sheet of heartfelt poetry, an acting mask, a copy of a good book read many times, the skull of a jester.

Hestia: a hideous gargoyle, a stone pulled from an old building, a house made of gingerbread, a well used door mat, a reminder of home.
