Devils

Devils are angels that rebelled against the Deus in their desire to reshape the world to their ideals. A devil is not so much evil but rather possesses certain virtues in such extreme excess that they become perverse and blasphemous. The implementation of a devils ideals would lead to what any sane person would surely label a dystopia, however some deranged infidels develop cults where they laud a devil as a spiritual and moral teacher, working to make their vision a reality.

Some example devils:

Devil: Legion

Description: A being with wings composed of innumerable arms, with a multi-faced head wreathed by a yet more heads fused together to form a halo. It walks the earth with many feet.

Excesses: Equality, Harmony

Tenets: Everyone has equal ownership of everything, including the bodies and souls of others.

Vision: To eliminate the concept of self, and fuse everyone into a hivemind.

Cults: Cults are run as democracies, with cultists voting on decisions, and electing members to fuse their minds and bodies into the amalgamation that acts as their high priest through orgiastic rituals. High priests are considered to have a number of votes equal to the number of cultists who have assimilated with them. Cultists will always obey the result of a vote even if it will result in the cultists death. for this reason, cultists will always attempt to outnumber their victims in terms of votes, as if the victims were to outnumber the cultists, they would be entitled to call for a vote on whether all the cultists present should kill themselves, surrender or reveal secrets about the cult. Subsequent votes always take precedence over prior votes.

Devil: Beelzebub

Description: A flock of cherub faced insects with downy white feathered wings that buzz and drone profane hymns. The choir swarms about a central humanoid figure that looks to be a statue of a saint carved from golden honeycomb and is held aloft by silks grasped in the six infant hands the insects have upon their chubby legs.

Excesses: Peacefulness, Compassion

Tenets: All life is sacred, all life should be nurtured and protected.

Vision: To eliminate death, and grant immortality to every living thing.

Cult: Cultists carry brooms to sweep the paths before them so as not to accidentally kill insects by stepping on them. The bodies of cultists are infested with parasites and diseases which require living hosts, they will deliberately infect others to nurture and protect this life. Even the life of cells is sacred, so the cultist induces cancers in living things.

Devil: Lucifer

It typically appears as a horrifyingly beautiful mass of flowing flesh, hair, eyes, feathers, gold, ivory and jewels, erupting with bursts of radiant light. Before its revolt against the Deus it served as the sun, a role now taken by the angel that serves as Shapash’s loom.

Excesses: Beauty, Improvement

Tenets: Beauty is to be refined by correcting and eliminating imperfections.

Vision: To endlessly reshape the world by constantly removing that which is least beautiful.

Cult: Cultists frequently engage in plastic surgery to reshape themselves into something more beautiful. They will reshape people, places and things they find unsightly. Should they feel that the improvements are insufficient they will destroy the object of their contempt.

Tenets: Every act of evil no matter how minor must be punished harshly, the act of punishing another is an act of evil itself, one should punish themselves to spare others.

Vision: To see every wrong doer mutilated and tormented for their ill deeds.

Cult: Cultists will go to any lengths to inflict torment on those they perceive to have committed some wrongdoing and will not hesitate to harm innocents if they believe it will lead to or constitute the punishment of a sinner. After every successful punishment cultists will mutilate and torture themselves as an act of penance. They believe defying the Deus is a necessary evil, and willingly accept eternal damnation as a final act of flagellation. Cults typically arise from overzealous penitents sworn to the Deus.

  1. Those cults are very imaginative. Overly democratic cult is certainly something new to me, but others are just as good.
